My Truth of War Reflection
“The Truth of war”
For this project we started out reading two novels, All Quiet on the Western Front and Slaughterhouse five. These novels gave us a basic background on WW1 and WW2. Before we started our essays we also watched a few videos on the warfare. The main idea of theses clips were to give us a further understand on how much the warfare evolved from WW1 to WW2. During WW1 there were soldiers who hadn’t ever even seen aircraft of heavy machine guns. The strategy used during WW1 was extremely ineffective and was called trench warfare. During trench warfare there was a series of trenches and one country would flood across the flats between the trenches which was called no man’s land. This one country would try to bombard the opposing countries trench. Major causalities were suffered inside the no man’s land due to heavy machine guns and explosives. In WW2 there was no trench warfare, it had evolved to urban warfare. In urban warfare you are fighting in the streets of a town or city. The cover Is much better due to all the buildings around. There is a lot of Urban warfare used in movies or video games now days because It has become a very popular form of combat.
The Habit of Heart and Mind I used the most during this project was Refinement. I had multiple ideas for a Photoshop poster. It took me several attempts to get my poster the exact way I wanted it. I wanted to involve an eye in my project because eyes are a great symbol to show perspective. Once I had found a great way to show both of the sides of my project using an eye I had to use my thesis statement to know what kind of image to put on each side. Once I got the idea to compare real life with the propaganda perspective of war I just had a few minor things to do until I was happy with my poster. After writing the rough draft of my essay in about two hours it left me a lot of editing to do over the weekend. I had to re write each of my paragraphs but as soon as I found better quotes for each of my paragraphs my essay was much better.
Two revisions I made to my essay that were very important to my project were a major spell check and finding new evidence. During my first spell check I did not spend very much time on it and a lot of errors were overlooked. This has taught me not to be lazy and just spell check. To catch most of your errors you should re read the essay a few times. Once I re read it I was amazed by how much errors I found. Sense I wrote my rough draft so quickly, my evidence did not relate to my thesis. I had to go to a quote website and spend a lot of time finding good quotes for each paragraph.
If I had another week to work on this project I think I would try to make an extra piece for my project like a painting or drawing. I would like to make a painting or drawing because I saw a lot of cool paintings and ii would like an opportunity to make one. I think In the future I may try to make a painting for my project. I feel like if you make a painting then it would be more amazing because I think it would take more skill than a Photoshop poster. Over all I was really proud of my project and had fun making it.
